Keep a plant journal you will actually use

Three short notes are often enough to reveal a pattern.

A useful journal can be a notebook, a text file or a few photographs. Start with the plant name, its location and the date. Add a short observation whenever you water: how the mix felt, whether there was new growth and anything unusual about the leaves.

Keep the system small enough to maintain. You do not need to measure every leaf or log every cloudy day. Record significant changes such as repotting, a move or switching the growing mix. When something goes wrong, these notes offer a timeline instead of a collection of guesses. When something goes well, they help you repeat the conditions.

Care requirements vary by species and growing conditions. Use these notes as a starting point for observation.
