Welcome a new plant slowly

A little observation makes the first weeks more informative.

Before choosing a place, inspect the plant, its label, the growing mix and the drainage holes. Check the undersides of leaves for signs of pests. Keep a new arrival separate from the rest of your collection initially and inspect it regularly, especially if it came from a crowded display.

Let the condition of the growing mix guide the first watering. There is no need to water simply because the plant has arrived home. Avoid immediately repotting, feeding and moving it into much stronger light unless there is a clear reason. Save the species name and purchase date in your notes, then observe how it responds to the new room.
